Keri & Riley's Elopement at LOCKN' Festival

Keri & RileyAugust 28, 2016

Keri & Riley's Elopement at LOCKN' Festival

It was a pretty warm day in August – one that a couple of Canadians were not accustomed to when it comes to humidity. But nothing could spoil the love and fun these two were about to share on their elopement day.

Keri and Riley met and traveled regularly to music festivals, so rather than choosing a venue, musicians, catering, cake, etc., they shopped for a special festival to visit and decided to get married on that weekend. They chose Central Virginia’s LOCKN' Festival in Nelson County, a four-day jam band and improv celebration hosting upwards of 30,000 visitors.

Camping is a big part of the weekend for the participants and also a way of life for Keri & Riley. But for their wedding weekend, they chose to enjoy their honeymoon time at the Hyatt Place Charlottesville.

I met Keri there to help her put the finishing touches on getting ready for Riley. She was so excited, teary and nervous all at the same time. She wasn’t accustomed to dressing up with special hair and make-up, but this was a very special day. All she wanted to do was marry Riley.

As we packed to leave, Keri gave me one of the most wonderful bouquets I have ever seen. A friend made it for her, with several types of fabric flowers and many symbols of her life and loves.

We drove to a nearby park, where Riley awaited after a morning bike ride (more to come on that detail). One favorite piece in Keri’s bouquet was a butterfly. As we prepared for the ceremony and chatted with Riley, a butterfly landed on his shoulder and decided to visit as well. It was a sure sign of a perfect day for our loving couple.

With flowers in her hair and their shoes tossed, Riley escorted Keri from the car to the shade of a beautiful maple tree where Dave Norris performed the nuptials. Simple, sweet love… that’s all there was, and all that was needed. We served a wonderful picnic lunch from HotCakes, and the couple spent their time together just being themselves, Keri & Riley.

Then it was time for their “get-away”…..a ride on a tandem bike that Riley had decorated with a “just married” sign, cans off the back and a Canadian flag. Keri added her bouquet and the “ride” was complete!

Some might think that, by eloping, they would miss out on having a reception – but no. LOCKN' Festival became the biggest reception ever, and Phish was their "wedding band"! They hopped a bus with Cville Tours and off they went.

Keri was still in her wedding dress, with bouquet in hand, and Riley carried the just married sign. Everyone stopped and took pictures with them, people bought them drinks, Blue Ridge Pizza Co. treated them to dinner, and Keri tossed her bouquet right there to the happy crowd in front of the pizza oven.

What a blast…..what a couple!

Allison & Sean's Vineyard Destination Wedding

Allison is a native of Kansas but so in love with Virginia and the guy she found here.  After visiting the Charlottesville area several times, they decided their destination wedding would be a small and intimate gathering of family and friends at beautiful Barboursville Vineyards.

Allison wore a wedding gown by Peter Langner “Pisa” in a dark ivory silk that was perfect with her beautiful olive skin tone and glorious smile, which only grew whenever she saw Sean.  She was escorted by her Father Bill while her Mom Sally, and Sean’s parents, William and Christine, took in the moments.  Claire Goodman conducted a loving service while accompanied by the Piedmont Chamber Players Quartet for the processional and recessional.

Allison was inspired by the vintage chic designs provided by Barb Wired, with antique linens, crocheted doilies, mason jars and lots of candlelight.  A New Leaf Florist provided her bouquet and arrangements of hydrangea, peony rose, ranunculas, lambs ear, dusty miller, lisianthus, accented with “fly eyes”; a conversation piece among the guests.

Barboursville’s Palladio Restaurant and their impeccable staff served an exquisite 4-course dinner. Guests enjoyed the breathtaking scenery of the vineyard and mountains while playing corn hole.

Everyone who knows Sean LOVES his chocolate chip cookies.  Early into planning, he decided he would serve his cookies at the reception, which eventually turned into canceling plans for a traditional wedding cake.  Sean got up early on the morning of his wedding day just to bake cookies. Instead of a cake cutting, Allison and Sean shared chocolate chip cookie dough for their first shared dessert as husband and wife  — the guests cheered!

We sent the happy couple off with a sparkler getaway while the guests were treated to special transportation.  We are so happy for Sean and Allison and the new life they will share and look for them to visit us often.

Becca and Jason's Veritas Vineyard Wedding

Becca & JasonAugust 23, 2014 Becca & Jason's Veritas Vineyard Wedding

There are those that think rain on a wedding day would make the celebration less than perfect. For Becca and Jason, it only worked to enhance the ceremony. The rain made the beautiful grounds of Veritas Vineyards and Winery lush and green, as captured in the wonderful photos by Dominique Attaway. It was reminiscent of Scotland, home to the groom’s family.

The ceremony was beautiful, incorporating Scottish traditions from Jason’s family and Jewish traditions from Becca’s. The wedding party was led down the aisle by bagpipes, a great surprise for the groom’s parents and guests.

As an especially unique touch to the evening, the father of the bride - being quite the craftsman - made beautiful pens for each guest. They used the colorful favors to sign the guest book and then took them home as a memory of this beautiful day.

Anna & Zack: Wed White & Blue!

Anna & Zack's patriotic wedding

Anna and Zack met while attending UVA through a Cru Christian Fellowship and spent their early dating days going aqua-caving with friends. Yes, you could definitely say they're adventurous and fun!

Zack is in the Air Force, and Anna’s birthday is July 4th. This is one of the most patriotic families I have ever met. So…. they made plans to marry on their favorite holiday – the 4th of July!

The ladies started off wedding day with a bridal brunch at Oakhurst Inn and immediately started getting ready with hair and make-up done by Jeanne Cusick of Cville Makeup. The ceremony was held at the UVA Chapel, with music provided by Cville Ceremony Sound.

Guitar and vocals by Tyler Limmard and the bride’s sister, Emma Vogelsinger, added special emotion to the songs. Jay Mendenhall, a friend and minister to the family, traveled from Oklahoma to officiate the ceremony.

The reception and evening celebration was held at First Colony Winery, and it was a perfect summer evening. The BBQ Exchange served an amazing meal, and everyone’s holiday favorite – PIE – was provided by Albemarle Baking Co. DJ Andy Wilfong of Party Masters started off the night’s dancing with “Party in the USA” and ended with “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Wedding party in garden

Our favorite part of planning was creating this fun and inspirational theme. Flowers were DIY by Anna’s mom, Melissa, and friends. We all contributed subdued red, off-white & blue accents. The guests took home adorable jars of the family’s homemade blueberry jam – with a note, “Thank You for Jamming with Us!”

Happy anniversary and birthday, Anna & Zack – and Happy 4th to all!
